Sustainability
At Sea Stacks, sustainability is not an afterthought it is embedded in the way the property was imagined, designed, and built. From the earliest stages of the project, our philosophy has centred on simplicity by design, thoughtful restraint in construction, and creating spaces that feel deeply connected to the surrounding coastal landscape. Every decision has been guided by a commitment to creating a guest experience that is both restorative and environmentally conscious, while ensuring the property exists in harmony with its natural surroundings.
Thoughtful Design &
Natural Materials
Sea Stacks has been carefully crafted using natural, enduring materials chosen for both their character and longevity. The buildings are timber-clad and timber-lined with responsibly repurposed timber, while creating a warm and authentic connection to place. Throughout the property, materials such as granite tiles and stone baths and sinks have been selected for their durability and timeless appeal. Wherever possible, the design intentionally avoids synthetic materials, with significant care taken to minimise the use of paint, plaster, and plastics. While eliminating plastics entirely in modern construction is difficult, consciously reducing their presence has remained a defining principle of the project.
Environmental Integration &
Landscape Restoration
The property has been sensitively integrated into its coastal setting to minimise disruption to the surrounding environment. Each Stack is connected by elevated timber boardwalks that keep guests off the ground, helping protect native flora and fauna across the site. Thousands of restored native plantings have been introduced throughout the landscape to regenerate the area and create habitat for local wildlife, including the Little Blue Penguins that inhabit this unique stretch of coastline. The result is an accommodation experience that feels immersed in nature while carefully preserving it for future generations.
Renewable Energy &
Sustainable Travel
Energy consumption is offset through on-site solar generation, reducing reliance on external energy sources and lowering the environmental footprint of every stay. To further support more sustainable travel, electric vehicle charging stations are provided at guest car spaces, encouraging low-impact exploration of the region and supporting the transition to cleaner transport options.
Supporting Local Community &
Responsible Tourism
Sustainability at Sea Stacks extends beyond the built environment and into the local community. We are committed to supporting the people, makers, and independent businesses that contribute to the character of Bicheno, while encouraging guests to experience the region in a meaningful and thoughtful way. From local food producers and wineries to boutiques, nature experiences, and small businesses, we believe tourism can play an important role in strengthening and sustaining the local community while fostering a deeper connection to place for our guests.
Our aim at Sea Stacks is to offer a calm, thoughtful, and restorative experience that treads more lightly on the natural world. Through considered design, renewable energy initiatives, environmental regeneration, and support for the local community, we continue to create spaces of comfort and longevity that reflect the beauty and integrity of the landscape that surrounds us.
